1910s
c. 1910 ?
Exeter Cathedral School
Cadet Corps.
Postcard. No date on the
card and no writing or stamp on the back.
The style of uniform suggests
a period near to the beginning of the First World War.
Location of where the photograph
was taken is uncertain. It is likely to be the playground of the pre-1940s school
on the north side of the Cathedral Close, with the rear of Bedford
Circus being the buildings shown in the upper half of the photograph.
The number of cadets shown is much more numerous than the number of choristers in the choir. The school at the time largely comprised just the 18 or so choristers, so there is the question of who are the 'extras' shown here. Who are the officers? What was the status of the two young boys leaning against the wall on the right?
Postcard owned by Mike
Dobson (alto 1976-).
