Deep snow
Gentlemen of the choir photographed after Sunday Eucharist in the Cloisters on a very snowy day! This was a very unusual year - Exeter had so much snow that it was cut off for a few days: 13.4 inches of snow were recorded at Exeter airport. But services went on as usual! The choir even gave their first performance of Howells' St Paul's at evensong this Sunday.
From front to back: John Turner (bass choral scholar 1976-1980; assistant lay vicar 1980-); Canon Frank Rice (Canon Treasurer, died December 1978); Mike Dobson (alto choral scholar 1976-82; lay vicar 1982-); Pip Newton (alto choral scholar 1973-1976; visiting Exeter that weekend); Gordon Pike (tenor choral scholar 1972-1974; lay vicar 1974-); Ron Kitchen (tenor lay vicar and punctator 196?-1979; died 2006); Mark Johnston (tenor choral scholar 1975-78); Neil Blackie (just visible behind Mark - bass choral scholar 1975-78); Nigel Gale (alto choral scholar 1977-79); Bill Tucker (alto choral scholar 1977-78). Julian Sutton (bass lay vicar 1976-2010) is missing as he was snowed up in his house at Tiverton!
With thanks to John Turner for this photograph.
