1984, Fund raising for Newfoundland tour
The second choir tour was to Newfoundland in 1984. One Saturday during the summer term, the choir held a fund-raising event, which involved members of the public placing any small change they had onto the cobbles outside the Clarence Hotel, with the aim of covering as large an area of cobbles as possible.
A surprising amount of money was raised. Curiously though, some of the coins were from pre-1971 decimal issues! Strange that people would still have such coins in their pockets, purses etc.
